Safe Sex and HIV/AIDS Education- What´s Right and Wrong with It? - A panel discussion
Join representatives from Midwest AIDS Prevention Project, AIDS Partnership Michigan, Affirmations, Dale Ross, and many other local Community and Organization leaders as we discuss this important topic.
The focus on "Safe Sex" seems focused around "education" in safe sex practices, but not to ask the question, "why do people engage in 'unsafe' practices". The mantra about "Safe Sex" has been at the forefront for close to 25 years, yet people - in the privacy of their own bedrooms - are making decisions - sometimes with full knowledge - that are considered "un-safe". No one has asked the question "why". To explore the "why" and to understand what the motivation to have "un-safe sex", and in some cases, to willingly try to become "sero-positive", is the discussion.
The forum is to ask "what is the motivation" and to understand why the message of "safe sex" seems "optional" in spite of all of the educational material available? What is the personal motivation to "bareback sex"? How do we "socialize" differently than we did 25 years ago, and is it as "satisfying" an experience? Does the message that is being delivered addressing the real problem?
Bringing together a panel of AIDS educators, people who practice what might be considered "un-safe sex", and to explore the "politics" of being "positive" and how that affects where people see themselves in both this society and this "community", in a non-judgemental environment and to better understand the motivation behind the decisions being made.
